Private 5G Networks – Opportunities and Challenges

Coredge Marketing

June 21, 2022

Last week, the Government of India announced plans to hold an auction of the 5G spectrum by the end of July. The key part of the announcement was that some frequencies will be reserved to enable enterprises to deploy private #5G mobile networks. This is very important news for enterprises that are on the road to digital transformation to augment efficiencies and enhance productivity using new technologies like IoT, AI, ML, machine-to-machine communication, etc., and various supporting use cases. It will enable private networks to support a new wave of industrial applications in sectors such as automotive, healthcare, agriculture, and energy, among others.

But having a private 5G network for enterprises is complicated. There are businesses of scale with diversified technology implementations spanned across different locations within the country. As tech firms are set to take part in deploying it, there is no adaptive one-size-fits-all solution for private 5G networks for diverse industries.

More questions follow the complications. How the deployment of solutions and services can be done in a more agile way along with Day 2 management and operations of deployed applications and infrastructure. The resulting private 5G network will be a mixture of multiple cloud environments (customer premises or remote) equipped with network functions, elements, and supporting applications from multiple vendors. How do we orchestrate such diverse workloads? With limited capacity resources at the edges, how can it be optimized to have a low footprint for applications? How can we have a safe and secure shared network and cloud environment that supports multi-tenancy and role-based access?

We have formed Coredge with the proactive approach considering such a complex environment and built solutions that provide automation at multiple levels of infrastructure, hardware, software, cloud platforms, and the latest digital/IoT appliances. Our solutions focused on the orchestration of Virtual Machines (VM) and container-based services, Day 2 Management of Kubernetes resulting in reduction operations silos and costs.
