It was organized by the OpenInfra Foundation to aware people of various open-source technologies and the need for private or public cloud for managing business operations and ultimately, improving production.

Here is a quick recap on Day 1 and Day 2 of the OpenInfra Live Event that will let you know what exactly happened in the virtual event that day.

About Day 1:

On Day 1 of OpenInfra Live Keynotes, COO of OpenInfra Foundation’s COO – Mark Collier & Executive Director – Jonathan Bryce mentioned that OpenInfra Labs has joined a new project “Taibai”, which is a new generation of the multi-cloud management platform.

In addition to this, they discussed the top 3 global open-source projects, their production, and how they are helping small and big industries to grow.

  • Linux
  • OpenStack
  • Kubernetes

They introduced these open-source platforms as LOKI meaning Linux, OpenStack, and Kubernetes Infrastructure. In the LOKI stack, there are more than 150000 coding changes every year and this is a huge number to bring positive impact in the industries based on the cloud.  The combined experience through open-source contributions bring forward the role and impact of decentralization.

Another exciting announcement was the launch of the ‘Million Core Club’ for OpenStack by OpenInfra Foundation. This club involves leading 7 companies as its founding members (Line, China Mobile, Workday, Walmart, and Yahoo) that run more than a million OpenStack cores.

At the end of the Day 1 event, both the speakers covered how customers can make a final decision on the need for private or public cloud and the ability of open source for overall growth.

About Day 2:

On Day 2 of OpenInfra Live Keynotes, the speakers described that there are 100 new OpenStack Clouds in 18 months and this brings a lot of innovation in the industry and impact for each service companies are offering. He spoke about the explosive growth among OpenStack Clouds of all sizes and OpenInfra by the numbers in terms of OpenStack, Kata containers, Airship, StarlingX, Zuul. A recent survey estimated that almost 80% of OpenStack clouds are in production, 13% are under development and 8% are in the proof of concept stage.

Over 200 infrastructure providers run a hybrid cloud environment with OpenStack, such as AWS: 53%, Azure: 40%, GCE: 30%, another OpenStack cloud: 47%, and other 8%. Another interesting highlight is about OpenSearch for testing and building software.

Another highlight is announced by IIdiko Vancsa – Senior Manager of OpenInfra Foundation and other industry leaders like Andy Dunkin – OpenRAN RF & Digital Platform Development Manager – Vodafone, Muhammad Gill – Vice President at Wind River, and John McCready at Dell Technologies. All these industry leaders explained how StarlingX is a driving force to business and producing great outcomes what will be the future goals of using OpenRAN, and how easier it is to deploy vRAN and OpenRAN with StarlingX. They gave thoughts on StarlingX. They depicted the importance of StarlingX, which is a fully-managed, integrated, and ready-to-deploy Kubernetes + OpenStack solution, which helps in proven deployment in far edge networks of major 5G telecom providers.
