It’s been denoted as the future of everything. But hang on for a second, the Era of AI is Here. But Are We Ready?

So, let’s have some cheesy snacks with your favorite cola before embarking on a journey through the exciting, thrilling and sometimes astonishing world of Artificial Intelligence (AI).AI is here. It’s no longer just the stuff of any sci-fi movies, or the comic books of Sabu and Raka, which we were all greatly fond of reading in our childhood days, where Sabu has all those charismas that looked unimaginable. In the same way, unthinkable, unimaginable pieces of stuff are transforming into reality. The unprecedented transformation we are witnessing in everything from our mobile phones to self-driving cars makes traffic jams less painful and even the coffee machines. Yes, you read that right! Just imagine, your next cup of your favorite coffee might be brewed by an AI-powered (CCD) Cafe Coffee Day. For our convenience, voice assistants like Siri and Alexa are there and Netflix/Amazon offer personalized recommendations. However, it’s not only about convenience. A crucial question lingers on while embracing this tech marvel, are we truly ready for the era of AI?

Before diving deep, let’s first understand what AI is. Artificial Intelligence is the simulation of human intelligence in a machine that enables them to work those activities and perform tasks that require human cognitive ability. It encompasses advanced functions like the ability to see, translate and understand spoken and written language, analyze data, and make suitable recommendations.

As an AI tool, ChatGPT was introduced to the world by OpenAI on November 22, and further, the world has witnessed a storm of AI Tools. The Era of AI has taken off from there, Facebook and Google, the two major giants, didn’t leave behind and unveiled their own LLMs. Microsoft collaborated with OpenAI for Co-Pilot and the Bing search engine. Midjourney, as a startup, introduced text-to-image generation.

AI isn't simply about robots taking over ordinary tasks. It's reshaping the industry's culture, improving the healthcare system with predictive diagnostics, and even transforming how we communicate with our gadgets. There was a time when chatbots were quite annoying pop-ups. Now they're personal shopping facilitators, guiding you through choices and preferences as if they were your best buddies. The era of AI is also playing a greater role in business's personalizing experiences, by ensuring communication in the form of ads, emails, and recommendations hits the bull’s eye. LLMs and generative AI have been facing criticism ever since they came into inception because of the fear of losing jobs and further perpetuating bias.

We must not forget the security aspects since an AI system can be hacked by cyber junkies and malicious entities could spell disaster.

So, the burning question is are we ready? The answer is that we're still struggling to figure it out. The magnitude of the rapid pace of AI development often outpaces our capability to regulate and understand its repercussions. Though governments and tech conglomerates are investing heavily in AI research, development and safety measures, but still more to be done in terms of education, policy-making, and public awareness.
